FUNGI-NL is a Dutch initiative that brings fungal research, data, software and training into one ecosystem that follows FAIR principles. It is coordinated by the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute.

By combining curated fungal data, well-documented open software, targeted training and a strong research network, FUNGI-NL aims to support reproducible science and cross-disciplinary collaboration. It builds on existing Dutch expertise and infrastructure and aligns with national and international open science and data stewardship efforts.

The initiative aims to help researchers, students and institutions by lowering technical barriers, harmonizing standards and building a sustainable, collaborative community for fungal research.

The challenge

  • Fragmented and inaccessible data
  • Lack of FAIR fungal analysis tools
  • Insufficient digital skills
  • Disconnected communities

Our response

Our aim is to position the Netherlands as a leader in data-driven mycology.

FAIR

Findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable data and software.

Users

Researchers and institutes who use and shape the hub.

Networks

A national community of fungal researchers.

Genomics

Curated metadata and genomic data.

Infrastructure

A shared platform and public web portal.

Four connected hubs

  • Data hub
